Bob Akamine Featured in Tribune-Herald

Today's Trib (Sun. July 27, p. 12) featured a half page article on Americans United - Hawaii treasurer, Robert Akamine, an accomplished photographer who studied for many years under the late Harold Desaki who, in turn, was a student of Ansel Adams. Bob's outstanding photo titled Big Island Images of a Kapoho lagoon filled a third of the page.

Summary of Results, Mid-Year Board Meeting of July 21 President Ed Clark called the meeting to order as scheduled. After full and free discussion, the following decisions were made:   (1) AU-Hawaii supports the ACLU lawsuit against the City & County of Honolulu on the grounds that a July 5 parade appears to have been a violation of the separation of church and state doctrine. For a description of the July 5 parade by Chad Blair in a recent Honolulu Weekly issue, Click Here.  (2) James Bill and Dr. Richard Chamberlain were approved to fill the two vacant seats on the Board. Mr. Bill will to also serve as our Oahu liaison officer.   (3) The Secretary was asked to contact the AU headquarters to explore the possibility of flying in one of our national AU leaders to address our annual meeting tentatively set for early December. Mid-Year Board Meeting set for July 21 The Mid-Year Board meeting is set for Monday, July 21, 2003 at noon. Members invited to participate. The agenda includes discussing the recent ACLU lawsuit against the City & County of Honolulu. It is alleged that the County, by allowing the Christian Coalition group to determine who could or could not participate in the July 4th parade, may have violated First Ammendment rights of excluded groups. Members who want to attend the meeting are invited to send an email message to: au_hawaii@yahoo.com for details.
