AU-Hawaii Secretary Honored by Peace Corps:

Hawaii Chapter secretary, Anson Chong, was selected as one of eleven recipients, nationally, to receive the Franklin H. Williams Award for 2003. The award recognizes returned Peace Corps Volunteers for their continued commitment to communtiy service in the spirit of Peace Corps ideals. The awards ceremony was held on Wed. June 4 at Shirver Hall, Peace Corps headquarters in Washington, D.C. American's United national liaison to faith groups, Rev. Cedric Harmon, was on hand to congratulate Anson. (Posted 5/31/03)

AU-Hawaii to Participate in Annual Mayor's Breakfast:

Officers approved AU-Hawaii participation for this event, and members are encouraged to participated. The program is coordinated by AU member, Rev. Richard Uejo, a personal friend of AU Executive Director, Rev. Barry Lynn. The breakfast is scheduled for Thurs. May 1, 7:30 a.m. at the Hilo Naniloa Hotel ballroom. A $10 donation is requested for the all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast. Checks should be made out to the "Interfaith Council" headed by Rev. Uejo. Anson Chong, AU-Hawaii secretary, has been invited to do the opening non-religious, non-partisan invocation (smile). He is currently working with AU-Hawaii Vice-President Rev. Richard Swerdfeger on appropriate wording. Previous invocations have been delivered by Baptist, Catholic, Muslim and Jewish clergy. First Quarterly Meeting 2003 Postponed:

After consulting chapter officers, President Ed Clark, announced that the first quarterly AU Board meeting, usually held in March, is postponed. It will be folded into the second quarterly meeting scheduled for late-June or July. (Posted 3/3/03)(Updated: 5/30/03)
